Schelling [Schelling, T., 1969. Models of segregation. American Economic Review 59, 488–493; Schelling, T., 1971a. Dynamic models of segregation. Journal of Mathematical Sociology 1, 143–186; Schelling, T., 1971b. On the ecology of micromotives. The Public Interest 25, 61–98; Schelling, T., 1978. Micromotives and Macrobehavior. W.W. Norton and Company, New York] considered a model with individual agents who only care about the types of people living in their own local neighborhood. The spatial structure was represented by a oneor two-dimensional lattice. Schelling showed that an integrated society will generally unravel into a rather segregated one even though no individual agent strictly prefers this. We generalize this spatial proximity model to a proximity model of segregation, examining models with individual agents who interact ‘locally’ in a range of more general social network structures. The levels of segregation attained are in line with those reached in the lattice-based spatial proximity model. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. JEL classification: C72; C73; D62

The Measure of Residential Segregation of Socio-Economic Groups by Using Multigroup Indices in Shiraz City
Urban segregation has been a problem of many cities of the world. Many researchers have interested in the urban segregation issues. Urban segregation has strongly concentrated poverty and created underclass. Different types of urban segregation exist, including income and racial or ethnical segregation, and depending on the contextual mechanisms within a city. To understand and plan a better co...
متن کاملCFD simulation for segregation behavior of a ternary mixture in a bubbling fluidized bed: effect of solid wall boundary condition
Abstract The effect of the solid–wall boundary condition on the segregation behavior of a sand ternary mixture differing in size but having the same proportion has been investigated in a gas–solid bubbling fluidized bed. A multi-fluid computational fluid dynamics model incorporating the kinetic theory of granular flow has been used. The mass fraction profiles of the different-sized partic...
متن کاملSegregation Behaviour of Particles in Gas Solid Fluidized Beds at Elevated Pressure
A comprehensive mathematical model based on the discrete particle model and computational fluid dynamics was utilized to investigate mixing and segregation of particles in fluidized beds at high pressure. To quantify the extent of mixing in the bed, the Lacey mixing index was used. Simulations were carried out with different mass fractions of small particles at various pressures ranging from 1 ...
متن کاملSpatial Segregation in Demography: A Short Review
Abstract. Spatial has always been an inherent component of demography, and demographic processes are inherently spatiotemporal. Recognizing the importance of spatial in general and spatial segregation in particular in demographic analysis has created new positions in demography and its conceptual and analytical frameworks. The notion of spatial segregation refers to the distribution of social...

Urbanization also contribute intensify Municipal solid waste generation. Source segregation of solid waste not only the fact to converge but also possible in maximum resource recovery from the waste. Waste management is a problem due to the ineffective mana...
متن کاملSegregation patterns of an equidensity TiO2 ternary mixture in a conical fluidized bed: CFD and experimental study
In this study, an Eulerian-Eulerian multi-fluid model (MFM) was used to simulate the segregation pattern of a conical fluidized bed containing ternary mixtures of equidensity TiO2 particles. Experimental 'freeze–sieving' method was employed to determine the axial mass fraction profiles of the different-sized particles, and validate the simulation results. The profiles of mass fraction for larg...
